warm and dry

cold and dry

cold and humid

warm and humid

✔ You rock!

The Monstera is a tropical plant native to the South American rainforests. It thrives in warm and humid climates. Its big leaves absorb light and water from the surrounding air.

2/5
Imagine you just bought a Monstera and now you’re looking for a good location to put it in your home. Which location(s) would you choose?

full sun

part shade

bright indirect sun

complete shade

✔ Well done!

The Monstera is pretty flexible with light levels. It will thrive in bright, indirect light but also grows well in partial shade.

✘ Sorry, but keep going.

3/5
One of the most frequent problems is overwatering. How do you think an overwatered Monstera looks like?

✔ Splendid!

If a Monstera is continuously overwatered, the leaves will droop and turn brown considerably. Stems will begin to feel soft, turn brown and eventually rot.

✘ You're getting there!

Drooping and browning leaves are a sure sign of a continuously over watered Monstera.
Stems will begin to feel soft, turn brown and eventually rot.

4/5
What options do you have to determine if your Monstera needs water or if the soil is still moist?

✔ Your plants will love you!

Following a fixed schedule can be troublesome as a plant’s water need depends on changing factors such as light and temperature. Instead we recommend to feel the soil or use a chopstick or similar object. Push it down and if soil sticks to it, the soil is still moist enough.

✔ You are a star!

The spray bottle is used to increase the humidity around the leaves, not to water the soil. You should spray from a bit of a distance to avoid big droplets on the leaves, which could cause spots.

Now think of your own Monstera. After what you've learned, is there anything you would like to change?

Water more

A few examples how the first notes on watering more would look like for you.

Day 1

A Monstera is quite drought tolerant, but don't let the soil stay completely dry for more than a week.

Day 3

Feel the soil by pushing your finger down a little. If the soil feels dusty and doesn't stick to your finger, it's time to water.

Day 7

Do your Monstera's leaves have a healthy green color but are still drooping and bending down? Time to water!

Water less

A few examples how the first notes on watering less would look like for you.

Day 1

Overwatering is a common problem. Monsteras are quite tolerant, but if unsure, water rather less than more.

Day 3

Feel the soil of your plant. If it feels moist and sticks to your finger well, you shouldn't water just yet.

Day 7

Take a look into your pot or saucer. Make sure your plant doesn't sit in water. If it does, pour out the water

Change location

A few examples how the first notes on changing the location of your plant would look like for you.

Day 1

When relocating your Monstera, make sure it gets enough bright light, but avoid strong, full sun

Day 5

Plants need time to adapt. No need to worry if the leaves are drooping, your plant is still getting used to the new spot.

Day 10

Take a close look at your leaves. Brown spots indicate your plant gets too much direct sunlight. Curtains can protect it!

Increase humidity

A few examples how the first notes on increasing humidity would look like for you.

Day 1

Using a spray bottle with room temperature water is a great way to increase the humidity around your plant!

Day 3

When misting your plant with a spray bottle, aim for the leaves and avoid the stems and soil.

Day 10

Did you know that grouping several plants together can increase humidity too? It's like a small microclimate.

Improve fertilizing

A few examples how the first notes on improving fertilization would look like for you.

Day 1

Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium...
what is important? For Monsteras, an equally balanced, liquid fertilizer is a good way to start!

Day 3

When it comes to fertilizer types Monsteras aren't too picky. But if you're looking to buy a new one, a balanced fertilizer for indoor foliage plants is a good choice.

Day 7

Label instructions are a start, but plant needs vary. Large Monsteras only need to be fed every two or three weeks from spring to later summer. Small Monsteras need even less.
